Celebrating 21 years with this band!
It was in December of 2003 that I was asked to join Gary Dunn, Ken Tingey and a few other folks down in his basement for my first-ever rehearsal with a band named “Logan - the band”. It was a dumb name, but it came about due to the fact that it was a Chicago cover band (plus Blood, Sweat and Tears, Earth, Wind and Fire, and any other band with a horn section). Besides myself was Gary Dunn (guitar, lead vocals), Ken Tingey (trumpet), Chris Rasmussen (sax), Ken Cannon (trombone), and Byron Lijenquist (drums). Jim Brown (percussion and co-lead vocals) joined a few months later.
We couldn’t seem to find and keep a bass player until a few years later when Kevin Haslam joined. Justin Clawson also joined on drums during this period. We continued to struggle keeping personnel.
Later when we could not keep horn players in stock, we ditched the section altogether and went a slightly different direction musically. It was then that we changed our name to 8TrackMind. Mike Mudrow joined on keyboard during this phase.
Since that time we’ve had a few personnel changes. Gary retired, Jim moved away, and Kevin passed away. They were replaced by Mike Long (bass and lead vocals) and Nic Katefides (guitar).
I know this seems like a lot of change, but every other band I have ever been in disintegrated completely before the 3 year mark. I count this group as miraculous in this aspect.
I really appreciate being with these guys for all these years. Music is the ultimate therapy, and having a reliable crew to jam with makes it all that much sweeter.
